The Arc Mercer Expands Flexibility with New Time-Off Cash-Out Option

At the start of 2026, the Arc Mercer introduced a meaningful enhancement to its time-off policy, giving employees greater flexibility, transparency, and control over how they use their earned time. One of the most impactful features of this update is the ability for staff to cash out unused vacation time, a benefit that has already made a positive impression across the agency.
Recognizing that every employee’s needs are different, the Arc Mercer took an individualized approach to rolling out this initiative. Staff members were personally contacted and guided through the process, ensuring they understood how much time they had accrued and what options were available to them. This hands-on effort reflects the agency’s commitment to not just offering benefits, but making sure employees can fully access and take advantage of them.
This new flexibility is part of a broader shift in how time off is earned. Based on employee feedback, the Arc Mercer transitioned from a yearly accrual system to a quarterly accrual model. This change allows employees to earn time off more consistently throughout the year, rather than waiting for a single annual distribution.
For many, the transition also included remaining hours from 2025. After prorating accruals through the end of the year, employees entered 2026 with an existing balance, giving them an immediate opportunity to either use, carry over, or now, cash out a portion of that time.
To help ensure no earned time goes to waste, the agency introduced multiple options:
1st Quarter Sell Back
Anniversary Sell Back
Anniversary Carry Over
These options allow employees to decide what works best for them, whether that means taking time off, saving it for later, or converting it into additional income. Any sell-back payments are processed separately from regular wages, but delivered in the same reliable manner.
This initiative represents more than just a policy update, it’s a reflection of the Arc Mercer’s continued investment in its workforce. By listening to feedback and responding with thoughtful solutions, the agency is empowering employees with greater choice and flexibility than ever before.
As the year continues, this new approach to time off is expected to support better work-life balance, reduce unused accruals, and ensure that employees feel supported in managing both their time and their financial well-being.
