The Arc Mercer’s commitment to inclusion and community engagement was recently highlighted on a statewide stage when Arts and Community Engagement Manager Caryn Coyle participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.

The session focused on improving access to the arts for community members who participate for personal enjoyment rather than professional careers. Caryn joined fellow panelist Rachel Aponte, Director of Education at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, to share insights on how their organizations create welcoming, inclusive environments for individuals of all abilities and backgrounds.

The roundtable explored how arts venues and community organizations can better support people who pursue creative expression as a hobby, a therapeutic outlet, or a personal passion. Panelists discussed successful accessibility programs, strategies for inclusive engagement, and ways to ensure artistic spaces remain open and inviting to everyone.

During the discussion, Caryn highlighted the Arc Mercer’s approach to making arts programming accessible for the individuals supported by the agency, emphasizing how creative opportunities can foster self-expression, confidence, and meaningful community connection.

The event was designed as a peer-to-peer conversation among arts professionals across New Jersey, with staff and representatives from other arts organizations contributing questions, ideas, and perspectives throughout the session.

Caryn’s participation reflects the Arc Mercer’s ongoing leadership in building inclusive spaces where creativity and community engagement are accessible to all.
