The Recreation Department at The Arc Mercer is breaking new ground as plans are underway to launch an exciting new pool (billiards) league that brings together Arc Mercer consumers and local first responders for friendly competition, meaningful conversation, and authentic community connection.

The idea is simple but powerful: Arc Mercer consumers team up with first responders to form pairs and face off in casual pool matches at the agency’s on-site arcade. The ultimate goal? To create an inclusive environment where bonds are built, role models emerge, and everyone involved has a whole lot of fun.

This initiative isn't just about the game. It's about offering our consumers valuable community integration experiences in a safe, familiar space. Engaging with first responders helps build trust, break down barriers, and foster positive relationships with some of our community’s everyday heroes.

The league had its first unofficial event recently with a special visit from two local police officers—Thomas Egan of the Robbinsville Township Police Department and Bob O'Hara from the Hamilton Police Department. They spent the afternoon shooting pool and chatting with members of our Dual Diagnosis Program. The event was a big hit and set the tone for what’s to come.

The atmosphere was full of laughs, high-fives, and genuine moments of connection. For many in attendance, it was more than a game—it was a highlight of their week and a glimpse at the positive impact this league can have.

Do You Know a First Responder Who’d Like to Join the Fun?

We’re actively looking for more first responders to join this incredible initiative. If you know someone who might be interested in participating, please reach out to krhead@arcmercer.org.
