Kickball Day Creates Lasting Memories

As the music played across Miracle League Field and kickballs flew through the warm spring air, something special was happening.

Consumers, residential staff, and officers from the Hamilton Police Department gathered together for what was supposed to be a community kickball game. By the end of the day, it had become something much more, a celebration of friendship, inclusion, and the relationships that make The Arc Mercer feel like family.

For many of the individuals we support, trying something new can be difficult. Routines provide comfort, and leaving home for a large event isn't always everyone's first choice. That's what made the turnout so remarkable.

Nearly every residential consumer came out to participate in Kickball Day.

Some took the field ready to play. Others preferred to cheer from the sidelines. But whether they were kicking the ball, running the bases, or simply spending time with friends, everyone found a way to be part of the experience.

Throughout the day, smiles were everywhere. Consumers and staff cheered one another on, celebrated every kick, and laughed together between pitches. For many, it was a chance to let loose, be active, and experience the simple joy of playing a game without worrying about anything else.

The fun wasn't limited to the consumers.

Residential staff jumped right into the action, running the bases, diving for balls, and sharing plenty of laughs with the people they support every day. Watching consumers step outside their comfort zones, connect with their peers, and truly enjoy themselves was one of the highlights of the day.

Anyone who spends time with Arc Mercer residential staff knows this isn't unusual.

Our staff don't just provide support, they build relationships. They celebrate victories, encourage growth, and care deeply about the people who live in our homes. The bonds between staff and consumers were on full display throughout the event. You could see it in every high-five, every word of encouragement, and every shared laugh.

At The Arc Mercer, we often talk about treating people like family. Kickball Day was a perfect example of what that looks like in action.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen during the simplest activities.

On this beautiful day in Hamilton Township, a kickball game reminded all of us what community, inclusion, and family truly look like.
