The Arc Mercer’s Team Atmosphere Committee (TAC) continues to demonstrate the power of culture, community, and compassion through the work of its Cultural Connection Groups.
Most recently, the Jamaican Cultural Connection Group led a meaningful clothing drive and fundraising effort to support Hurricane Melissa relief efforts in Jamaica.
With support from staff across the agency, the initiative raised critical funds and supplies that were delivered directly to those impacted. Pauline Maxwell, a nurse at the Arc Mercer Healthcare Center and a proud member of the Jamaican community, traveled back to her home country to personally distribute care packages and assist with on-the-ground relief efforts in Saint Elizabeth, one of the areas most affected by the storm.
Through this collective effort, more than 300 individuals were fed, and over 60 care packages were handed out to community members in need. Each care package included essential hygiene items such as soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and wash cloths, simple items that make a meaningful difference during times of recovery.
Thank you to all who left a donation, your contribution made a difference.
This initiative reflects the heart of the Arc Mercer’s Pay It Forward projects and the mission of TAC’s Cultural Connection Groups: creating opportunities to celebrate culture while making a positive impact locally and globally.
