This holiday season, the Arc Mercer’s Residential Department once again brought its Good Neighbor Program to through a heartfelt door-to-door holiday outreach led by residential staff and the individuals supported by the agency.
Together, staff and consumers stepped into the neighborhoods surrounding Arc Mercer group homes to personally wish neighbors a happy holiday season. With poinsettias in hand, the group went door to door, sharing smiles, warm greetings, and small moments of connection that made a lasting impression on everyone involved.
For the individuals served by the Arc Mercer, the experience was about more than delivering flowers. It was an opportunity to actively engage with their community, practice social connections, and take pride in being recognized as neighbors themselves. Staff supported and encouraged each interaction, creating a welcoming environment where genuine conversations could unfold.
Neighbors responded with enthusiasm and kindness, opening their doors, expressing appreciation, and taking time to chat. Some shared stories about seeing residents around the neighborhood throughout the year, while others paused to capture photos and celebrate the moment. These exchanges reinforced the idea that inclusion is built through everyday interactions and mutual understanding.
Building Belonging Through the Good Neighbor Program
The Good Neighbor Program reflects the Arc Mercer’s commitment to fostering inclusion, safety, and belonging beyond the walls of its residences. By encouraging meaningful connections between residents and their surrounding communities, the Residential Department helps create environments where individuals feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
This holiday outreach exemplified that mission in action. It demonstrated how intentional efforts guided by staff and centered on consumer involvement can strengthen relationships and deepen community ties.
Looking Forward
The Arc Mercer remains grateful to the neighbors who welcomed residents with open doors and warm holiday wishes. Their kindness helps shape neighborhoods where everyone belongs.
As the Good Neighbor Program continues to grow, the Residential Department looks forward to expanding these connections through ongoing outreach and participation in neighborhood activities. Each visit, conversation, and shared moment brings the agency one step closer to building stronger, more inclusive communities for all.
