At The Arc Mercer, we believe that high-quality care starts with high-quality training. That’s why our Training Department recently partnered with KinderSmile Advanced Oral Healthcare to bring specialized oral health education to our residential staff and managers.

Led by KinderSmile’s Dr. Ethan Glickman and CSLP student volunteer Omar Maksausa, the session provided practical training designed to address the specific oral health challenges faced by adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The training focused on equipping caregivers with techniques, strategies, and knowledge to improve daily oral care and promote better health outcomes for the individuals we support.

Director of Training Theresa Wilson and Lead Trainer Bruce Points attended the session and were instrumental in coordinating the collaboration.

Adults with IDD often face significant barriers to dental care, making caregiver involvement essential. This training gave our team the tools to recognize early signs of dental concerns, reduce fear and discomfort during hygiene routines, and foster a more inclusive, supportive approach to oral health.

This effort reflects Arc Mercer’s proactive approach to training and development—working with respected community partners like KinderSmile to stay on the cutting edge of person-centered care.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Glickman, Omar Maksausa, and the KinderSmile team for sharing their expertise and passion. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier future—one training at a time.
