The Arc Mercer recently hosted a memorable Juneteenth celebration organized by its newly formed Black Culture Advisory Group. The event aimed to educate and engage both staff and consumers about the history and significance of Juneteenth while showcasing the richness of Black culture.
The luncheon featured insightful speeches from team members, providing attendees with a deeper understanding and appreciation for Black culture. A highlight of the celebration was a captivating performance by the Masters of Percussion, a traditional African drum group from Trenton, NJ. Led by Timothy Robinson, their rhythmic beats created an electrifying atmosphere, introducing many to the vibrant sounds of African music.
The event also saw the attendance of two representatives from the International Free & Accepted Masons, Brother Brian Davis and Brother Robert Ponton, who showed their support by making a generous donation to The Arc Mercer. Executive Director Steve Cook announced that the funds would be allocated directly to the Black Culture Advisory Group to empower them in their future endeavors.
The Arc Mercer's Team Atmosphere Committee (TAC) consistently strives to develop innovative programs that cater to the diverse cultures represented within the organization. The agency attributes its success to its rich diversity, and the TAC's cultural groups play a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity and celebrating differences.
From the S.N.A.P group (Special Needs Alliance for Pride), advocating for LGBTQ+ rights among individuals with special needs, to the Liberia group, instrumental in establishing The Arc's first international chapter in Monrovia, Liberia, the TAC is driving positive change on multiple fronts.
The Arc Mercer's Juneteenth celebration exemplifies the agency's commitment to embracing and celebrating the diverse cultures that make up its community. By providing educational and engaging experiences, The Arc Mercer continues to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals it serves.
