A Parent’s Words Reflect the Arc Mercer Difference

At The Arc Mercer, we believe that every person we serve deserves to be met with compassion, consistency, and a commitment to finding the best path forward for them. A recent message from Amanda T., whose son Devin participated in our Occupational Training Center (OTC) program, is a moving reminder of why we do what we do.

In her note to our OTC team, Amanda shared:

“You didn’t give up on him, and that is just rare. We haven’t always experienced that in previous day programs.”

Devin will soon be transitioning to our Campus Day Program, where we’re confident he will continue to grow and thrive. As Amanda mentioned, the decision to move programs was based on what’s best for Devin—a reflection of The Arc Mercer’s commitment to individualized support. Whether it's introducing new opportunities like horticulture (which Devin discovered a love for during his time at OTC), building confidence, or nurturing community, our goal is always to find the right environment where each person can shine.

Amanda’s note continued:

“Please pass on to your entire staff that I think you are all amazing… You have all made a really positive impact on his life and ours at home.”

The gratitude she expressed is a powerful testament to our staff’s dedication. From our frontline direct support professionals to program coordinators and specialists, every team member plays a part in creating inclusive, engaging spaces where people feel seen and supported.

We are proud that Devin felt connected, supported, and genuinely cared for at the OTC. We are even more proud that, as he takes the next step, his experience continues to shape his outlook—with excitement for the future and appreciation for the journey so far.
