Senior Day Program Artists Shine at Mercer County Art Show

Creativity continues to be an important part of life at The Arc Mercer’s Senior Day Program, giving consumers opportunities to express themselves, develop their talents, and stay actively connected to the community.

That creativity was recently on display at the Mercer County Senior Art Show, where artwork created by Arc Mercer seniors was featured alongside pieces from artists throughout Mercer County.

Representing The Arc Mercer were Dorothy Talley, Samuel Redfern, Linda Panebianco, Vincent Woodson, Debra Barbuto, Magdalena Angell, Melvin Ware, and Gerald Johnson. Each artist had the opportunity to see their work displayed publicly and celebrated as part of a countywide exhibition.

The show was especially memorable for Gerald Johnson and Debra Barbuto, who both received Honorable Mentions in the Non-Professional Pastel category.

For consumers in our Senior Day Program, art is about much more than creating something to hang on a wall. Creative activities provide opportunities for self-expression, choice, accomplishment, and continued learning. They also give our seniors another way to communicate their personalities, interests, and experiences with the people around them.

Opportunities like the Mercer County Senior Art Show take that experience one step further by bringing their talents beyond the walls of the program and into the greater community. Seeing their artwork displayed in a public exhibition, and having friends, staff, fellow artists, and community members recognize their work, can create a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment.

At The Arc Mercer, we believe meaningful engagement should continue throughout every stage of life. Whether through art, recreation, community outings, friendships, or new experiences, our Senior Day Program helps consumers remain active, creative, and connected.
