Arc Mercer’s innovative teaching farm and housing project took an important step forward this month when our leadership team presented the plans to Hopewell Township officials. The project includes four six-bedroom homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), along with a fully functioning farm featuring greenhouses, beehives, a chicken coop, and a farm stand. These features will not only produce fresh, sustainable food, but also create vocational opportunities for our consumers.
What made this meeting especially meaningful was the reception. Township leaders were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and offering clear support for the project. They praised Arc Mercer’s forward-thinking approach, noting that it benefits both individuals with IDD and the broader Hopewell community by addressing affordable housing needs and promoting inclusion.
For many at Arc Mercer, the farm has been a long-held dream. Seeing it embraced by the Township reinforces the momentum we’ve built and the impact this initiative will have for years to come.
