Celebrating the People Who Make Our Homes Special

At the Arc Mercer, birthdays are more than just a date on the calendar, they are an opportunity to celebrate the unique individuals who make our homes and programs such special places.

Over the past several months, the residential team has hosted birthday celebrations for five consumers, bringing together housemates, staff, family members, and friends to create memorable experiences filled with laughter, food, and community.

Consumers Darlene, Mervin, George, Devahn, and Mark each celebrated another trip around the sun, and the residential staff went above and beyond to make sure each celebration reflected the joy and importance of the occasion.

One of the most touching celebrations was held for Mervin at Village Group Home. Family members joined staff and residents for a party that exceeded expectations and created lasting memories. Mervin's parents attended the celebration, and his mother shared her appreciation afterward.

"I just want to say thank you for making Mervin's birthday so special," she said. "We didn't expect such a big celebration, but we're so happy and he's so happy."

Darlene's milestone 70th birthday was celebrated with great food, grilling, and even better company. Friends, housemates, and staff gathered together to honor Darlene and enjoy a beautiful day filled with smiles and conversation.

George and Devahn shared a special joint birthday celebration that brought together residents and staff from both of their homes. George marked his 75th birthday dressed in his finest suit, while Devahn celebrated his 34th birthday. Friends and staff gathered in the backyard to enjoy food and plenty of birthday cheer.

Meanwhile, Mark celebrated his special day out in the community at a local bowling alley, surrounded by housemates, friends, and staff. The outing provided an opportunity to enjoy some friendly competition while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

These celebrations are a reflection of what makes the Arc Mercer residential program so special. Birthdays provide a chance to strengthen relationships, bring families together, and remind each individual that they are valued and celebrated.
