As its slogan says, The Arc Mercer is committed to empowering lives through opportunity. Our organization also is committed to empowering and nurturing the lives of parents and caregivers as well as the lives of our consumers. One way we do that is by offering after-care and respite services.

For some parents, these services have allowed them to complete their workday virtually worry-free about where their child or adult with cognitive disability will go after school or attending a day program. And the Saturday morning drop-in gives parents and caregivers time to accomplish numerous tasks they may not get to during a work week.

As one of our members put it, “You have to nurture the parent, so the parent can go home and nurture the child.”
