Respite and Aftercare
“I enjoy being a mentor to other people in the program and having fun with my friends.”
-Anthony M.
Arc Mercer Consumer
A primary function of The Arc Mercer is to provide support for the families of individuals with developmental disabilities. This can take the form of emotional counseling or respite during work or relaxation hours.
Our Respite Program is comprised of one component: Aftercare Services.
Aftercare Services
The Arc Mercer offers an Aftercare program in response to working caregivers’ needs for appropriate, reliable, and quality care for family members with a disability.
During program hours, individuals are encouraged to participate in various leisure activities, including arts and crafts, movies, games, and karaoke. Individuals are also provided a light snack.
Transportation
Caregivers are responsible for transporting individuals to and from the program, but vehicles are available for trips and/or emergencies during program hours. Transportation is arranged by the caregiver. Options include Arc Trans, Access Link, the consumer’s school system, or through private arrangements.
Eligibility
To receive Aftercare, individuals must be residents of Mercer and/or Lower Hunterdon County and must be eligible for services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
“Michael Blakely and Almeta Hunter have been participating in The Arc Mercer program for several years. They really enjoy the different programs and activities (like Aftercare) that are available to them. I appreciate the well trained staff that assists them with any support, personal care, and social interaction that is needed.”
