Our Residential Mission Statement
The Residential programs of The Arc Mercer are
dedicated to the well-being, health and safety of
the individuals we serve. Through quality training,
thoughtful discussion and the utilization of
available resources, we are driven to continuously
enhance our services with the goal of encouraging
each individual to reach his or her highest level of
independence and quality-of-life.
The Arc Mercer has been providing residential
services for people with mental retardation and
developmental disabilities since 1982. Currently, we
provide residential services for 99 individuals who
live within one of the following categories:
Group homes – small, group living within a
community-integrated home. Our homes provide 24-hour
supervision and are located throughout Mercer
County.
Supervised apartments – individuals live alone or
with a roommate in provided apartments with 24-hour
supervision. A staff office is on the premises.
Supported living – individuals live on their own in
apartments. There is no on-site supervision.
Assigned counselors meet with the individuals in
this program several hours each week to provide
assistance or and to work on goals.
The individuals we serve through our residential
department receive varying degrees of supervision
and assistance, based on their needs. Goals are
developed annually with input from the individual,
significant others (family and friends), care
workers and staff. Goals may be related to any
category of an individual’s life and are designed to
meet that person’s needs, hopes and dreams. This is
our person-centered approach.
The highest level of independence possible is sought
for everyone in every category of life, and could
range from something as simple as brushing teeth to
as complicated as getting to a doctor’s appointment.
Goals are set accordingly.
