- How old does my child have to be to attend one of the programs at The Arc Mercer?
The Arc Mercer has a variety of programs and services for people of all ages who have mental
retardation and/or developmental disabilities. The Step Ahead Childhood Learning Center accepts infants
through children up to age 3. Step Ahead Abbott is available for children between the ages of three and six.
- How can I find out about opportunities to help out as a volunteer or advocate for The Arc Mercer?
There are many opportunities to volunteer at The Arc Mercer. If you would like to help out with children
or adults who have mental retardation, you may want to consider volunteering as a regular
program volunteer. Applications and background checks are necessary, but your help is really needed. We also need volunteers who could assist at
our residential programs, help out at special events and provide transportation as well. Click on Volunteering for more information about volunteering
opportunities for you or your organization.
The best way to work as an advocate for people with mental retardation or developmental disability is to
arm yourself with information that you could share with policymakers and politicians,
educators and the medical community. A good first step in that direction is to become a member of
The Arc Mercer -- attend our meetings and events, help out during fundraising activities and share
your thoughts and ideas with others who want to snsure that people with cognitively disability are
given the same opportunities as others in their community.
All referrals for housing must come to The Arc Mercer through the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
