The Arc/Mercer provides employment to people with developmental disabilities in a variety of ways. About 150 jobs are within the segregated or sheltered environment of the "workshop." Another 80 jobs are with work crews off-site. At present there are 60 people holding down competitive jobs in the community.

In 1997, the name "Arc Enterprises" was established to give a business identity to what have always been, in essence, businesses at The Arc/Mercer. Arc Enterprises gives greater dignity and recognition to the work that is done so well by people with disabilities. And, Arc Enterprises employees learn another dimension of what it is like to work in a "real" job. They wear uniforms and security badges, receive paychecks and must request vacation time in advance. Workers progress through the designations of "trainee," "apprentice," and "employee." All of this is good practice for entering competitive employment later on.

Arc Enterprises, a division of The Arc/Mercer, is an affirmative entrepreneurship. Products and services are being aggressively marketed. New ventures are being developed.
