Arc Trans
“I like to be independent and I live in Plainsboro, which is really far from here. (I use Arc Trans) because it’s easier to go to work on the Arc bus than on public transportation to get to the workshop.”
-Katherine Lavish
Arc Mercer Consumer
The Arc Trans program aims to be the premier transportation provider to those with developmental disabilities in Mercer County. We also look for opportunities to collaborate with other agencies to maximize service for those who need a hand….or a set of wheels to expand their independence.
A sampling of our current collaborations include:
- The New Jersey Tennis League
- Project Connect
- Jewish Family & Children’s Services
- Mercer Street Friends
- Interfaith Caregivers
Arc Trans maintains a fleet of 53 vehicles that transported passengers with developmental disabilities on 2,000 one-way trips each week in 2009.
That’s approximately 104,000 one-way trips a year!
What if you can’t get there from here?
Lack of transportation is one of the biggest problems facing the developmentally disabled community. To help our consumers, The Arc Mercer has created the Arc Trans program.
Our Program
We strive to provide round trip transportation from home to:
- Day Programs
- Medical Appointments
- Recreational Activities
- Work
Our Mission
Arc Trans wants to be the premier transportation provider to those with developmental disabilities in Mercer County. We wish to collaborate with other agencies to maximize service for those who need a hand, or set of wheels, to expand their independence.
A sampling of our current collaborations include:
The New Jersey Tennis League, Project Connect, Jewish Family & Children Services, Mercer Street Friends, and Inter-faith Caregivers.
Our Policies
Timely Service
We strive to arrive on time or close to the scheduled pick-up time!
And we don’t speed to accomplish this either! Instead, we use VersaTrans, transportation routing software. This system helps us better manage the complex and continually changing variables associated with busing.
Safety
While providing timely service is important to us, the safety of our passengers is our top priority! Arc Trans drivers are held to strict DOT standards. Drivers receive training in:
- Proper driving skills
- Working with the developmentally disabled
- First Aid
- CPR
We also utilize Drive Cam to help with training. By combining sight and sound, expert analysis, and driver coaching, this system has reduced vehicle damage, workers’ compensation, and personal injury.

Bus Advertising Program
Arc Trans, The Arc Mercer’s transportation unit, offers a unique opportunity for area businesses to take their marketing message to the streets by putting their company’s logo on large signs on each side of the bus.
Benefits of Advertising
What is unique about advertising with Arc Trans is that companies have their advertising dollars reinvested in programs for those with developmental disabilities and their families. Funds raised through bus ads will support Arc Mercer job-training, advocacy, recreational, respite, and educational programs.
Moreover, your ads will be:
- On the road during peak commuter hours
- 24” x 48” and in full color
- Seen by drivers and pedestrians from all demographics who are actively looking at their surroundings
