Established by a group of parents in 1950 to educate and provide recreation for their children with mental retardation, The Arc/Mercer grew as those children grew into adulthood.

The Arc/Mercer is part of a nationwide movement to bring children and adults with mental retardation into the mainstream of American life as much as possible. For that reason, The Arc/Mercer has expanded and added services during the almost fifty years since it was founded.

Currently, The Arc/Mercer serves nearly 1000 individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in Mercer County, New Jersey and their families.

The Arc/Mercer is a non-profit association directed by parents and community volunteers. Donations to The Arc/Mercer are tax-deductible.
